Coluber constrictor etheridgei (Tan Racer)
Liberty County, Texas - Summer 2014
This uniformly tan racer was found neatly coiled on the forest floor, absorbing the last rays of fading sunlight.
I was excited to see this snake, as I had been hoping to find this subspecies in this county, though I did not expect one so dark and uniformly tan as this, nor did I expect to find it sitting quite still in a neat coil while I hiked through the Trinity River bottoms.
At this spot, bottomland forest meets the edge of an uncut pine plantation.
