Ishikawa-ken, Kanazawa. Summer 2007.

Higashi Chaya Machi (East Tea-house District) is an old geisha area in Kanazawa that lies along narrow streets, along which patrons would sneak in and out of the "tea houses" to visit their geisha mistresses. Kanazawa was spared the US firebombings of WWII, and much of this district was left standing. Now little cafes occupy the shells of former geisha-houses, lining the narrow streets strolled by tourists foreign and domestic.
