Urban Land Scouts - 2010, Ongoing | The URBAN LAND SCOUTS are a scouting group open to all people who wish to become better stewards of the land where they live. You can read the levels of Urban Land Scouting and learn about earning your own badges at:
Gleaning Tours - 2009 | These tours are intended to stimulate discussion on the complexity of food politics and access, as well as directing our urban attention to the natural cycles and systems around us.
Banneroo - 2009 | The Birdhouse traveled to Bonnaroo in Manchester, TN to erect a bamboo fort and engage festival patrons in acts of trade and commerce. Visitors to our fort were invited to trade a scrap of their clothing for one of our screenprinted patches. Their donated cloth was sewn into a flag that we flew above the fort.
Economy of the Amateur - 2009 | First shown at Fluorescent Gallery, in Knoxville, TN, this work values the hand labor of the amateur as it turns local flora to valuable products and currency.
Costumes to Save Your Life - 2008 | These costumes each respond to specific cultural actions I wished to modify or celebrate. They are "Mourning", "Eating/Feeding", "Despair", and "Collecting/Saving". Fashion photography by Luke Anderson.
The Birdhouse - Ongoing | The Birdhouse is a collectively-run arts space in Knoxville, TN. We support the work of emerging artist, musicians, and activists through studio rentals, workshops, exhibitions, and shows. See the Birdhouse's flickr page here: www.flickr.com/photos/knoxvillebirdhouse
VENDredi - 2008 | Collaborator Hilary Williams and I used an undergraduate graphic design charette to stock a snack vending machine with kits. Winning designs were reproduced in editions of 10 and sold for $5 or less.
