Big Bitis

Large female puff adder

Despite being pretty common, this was my #1 target species on a recent trip. This species is not easy to get a shot of, particularly when it comes to larger individuals, which despite being incredibly stocky can pretty much get their whole body airbourne when striking at threats. They also constantly tuck their heads back behind their body, which makes getting a balanced shot of them quite difficult. Add a constant loud hiss to the mix and the resulting experience is incredibly intimidating. This photo was achieved by getting a mate to constantly walk circles round the snake so it forgot I was present and re-focused on him rather than me.
