Venomous land mine

Sind saw-scaled viper (Echis carinatus)

This attractive little viper sits amongst the desert scrub, patiently waiting for an unsuspecting prey item to cross its path. These snakes can produce a hissing/rattling type sound to warn off potential predators by rapidly vibrating their scales against each other. In the arid desert environment it is believed this technique of producing sound requires less water than a genuine hiss.
