Adventure Map (1987, hand-drawn)

    Newer Older

In 1987 I made a "map" of the original Adventure game, by hand, with pen and paper. Originally drawn on 11x17 paper, it was then photocopied down onto 8.5 x 11; this is a scan from one of the photoreductions.

Note that there is no consistent 'mapping' between compass directions and the edges of the paper; West is not 'left' on the page. In fact, West is not even always the same direction on the page! This was done to save space, and to free me to 'fold' a twisty maze of rooms and caverns onto a single rectangular page. To move from one room to another, go in the direction indicated on start of the path leaving the room.

I also scattered some notes and hints around the map to help the novice adventurer avoid frustration -- but nothing so explicit that it spoiled the fun of trying to figure things out.

Wow...I was doing a bit of research for a blog post that mentions this game, and I found this. Great work! Ahh, the hours I lost as a kid playing Adventure/Colossal Cave....
