Robin Hood

    Prev Next

The Robin Hood is a stereo camera that was made in the 1930s by Standard Cameras Ltd. of Birmingham, England. It was made to use single sheets of film, and could take single shots as well as stereo pairs.
As you may know, I love cameras that are visually appealing, and this one's doubly appealing to me, with its body of colorful speckled bakelite and the inventive Robin Hood logo on the front. Eye candy!

I've got one that looks almost exactly like this with the speckled bakelite but it takes 127 film and doesn't have the Robin Hood name, but I forget what it's called...

Would these be the same folks that made the Coronet 3D?

Yes, apparently there were close ties between Standard Cameras and Coronet. Both companies were in Birmingham, and some of their camera models were nearly identical.

I'd never seen the single-sheet model before - I can see now that the logo on the front of the Coronet is where they took out the peep-sight finder and modified the mold.....

Ahh, so it is. There is another version of the Coronet 3D without the binocular finder. That one has a single eye-level finder on top, and also the waist-level finder like on the Robin Hood.
      See here.

Yes it's the Coronet that I've got, without the binocular finder, I've been thinking of converting it to take 35mm film, somehow.

I was scrolling down to leave a comment asking if it was related to the Coronet, which we have, and saw that the question had been asked and answered.

The speckled finish is more interesting than the Coronet.

I have the Coronet as well. This one's got the speckled body, but the Coronet has that cool binocular viewfinder, which I also love.
