Nikon FM

    Newer Older

Having bought the N65, I found myself relying on the fully-automatic setting for nearly every shot. So, I decided it would be a good idea to get myself a fully manual camera in order to force myself to think about my exposure settings. Using this camera makes me feel like a photographer, as opposed to an average shmuck with a point-and-shoot, which is what I really am. :o)

The FM was manufactured in Japan by Nippon Kogaku from 1977-82. Despite its name, it doesn't pick up any radio stations.

The lens shown here was manufactured c1964.

      A classic camera.
I guess I'm showing my age when I get nostalgic about the reliable, high quality manual focus SLRs.

      Lovely piece of kit.

I'm a Pentax shooter myself but I still wouldn't mind having of these or the Nikon F.

I've got the camera (you've seen it lately) but missed the same f2.0 pre-AI lens due to a last 7 seconds sniper on EBay. $31 he got it for. Bah humbug. Anyway I am bidding again on an AiS 35-70 f3.3 for it. It is definitely one solid little SLR - had to replace the FM2 my brother took away .... I'll get even one day :-)

And an update on 8-13: I finally won the Nikkor 35-70 zoom - cool! soon to be posting fruits of the labor of love on this site

I do the same with my OM-30! (yeah, I know, it's auto, but it makes me go through the process because of it not being a friend of my 3200 film).
I was actually close to buying a Nikkormat, but their meters are known to stupidly die!

I bought a Nikon FM on Ebay and I actually love it! I'm glad that I'm not obsessed with taking so many photos and here I can actually take the time to take a photo because there's no luxury of instant/digital.

Our family had one exactly this like but it got stolen on the tube. It was quite hard to get over it and see it go. Does anyone know where one could find old cameras for sale? Is is just ebay? Or might there be somewhere else we could look?

      They're amazing cameras!

The first camera I ever used was an FM-2, I'd love to get my hands on another one, you are a lucky man to have this camera!
