Kodak Happy Times Instant Camera

    Newer Older

Made in 1978, the Happy Times is a special premium version of Kodak's "The Handle". This is surely one of the most visually unappealing cameras ever made, but then, it was the 70s.

Kodak was banned from making instant cameras after being sued by Polaroid.

If I was Polaroid, trying to market instant cameras as cool and trendy, and this thing came along, I think I'd sue too!

Unfortunately I didn't find this out until AFTER I'd bought a Kodak instamatic, but the bag is nice.

I have never seen this Coke version! Could you add it to our Vintage Kodak Group?

      $1! Nice score!

Something tells me the next edition of McKeown's will have a lower value for this camera. At least on eBay, I've never seen one sell for anywhere close to $120...

Wow, I've never seen one of these either. I had a regular Handle when they came out, but didn't use it long. I think the handle broke off or something like that. It certainly didn't take very good pictures. Not that I remember, at least.

Polaroid sued Kodak for infringing their patents. In Australia Kodak had to buy back all cameras and film from stores AND the public.

This is the awesome commercialtastic twin to my Pleaser Trimprint II. And I agree about it being ugly, but it has this strange charm I can't seem to resist.

I remember TV commercials for The Handle, so this camera just kind of reminds me of the 70s. There was definitely a lot of hideous stuff everywhere, but I have very fond memories.
Plus the music was great! Probably the best part of growing up in the 70s was the soundtrack.

    17. John Kratz 54 months ago | reply

It took Kodak instant film which hasn't been made since 1986.
