Cicada Killer Wasp in Flight

    Newer Older

It was hovering for a few seconds while watching me. This wasp is about 2 inches long and quite scary.
Cicada killer wasps are large, solitary, ground dwelling, predatory wasps. They are so named because they hunt cicadas and provision their nests with them, after stinging and paralyzing them. They also make great big holes in the lawn.
