This is a love or hate thing and I'm in the hate category. I like the pic for historical reasons but the castle as a birthday cake made me wonder: What were they thinking?

I thought the same thing when I saw it, for I'm in that hate category, also. I posted it for the "historical value" of it. In our Disney set I also have this photo of the small portion in the back of the castle that they left for people who had never seen the castle as it really is...

Thanks for the pic. I do like seeing old Disney, amusement parks, historical photos. It's cool to go back and think, "Remember when..."

I swore I wouldn't go to WDW as long as the cake castle existed and I don't think it was up for more than 1.5 years or so (may have been 2). Anyway - I didn't go.

I wasn't a fan of the wand on Spaceship Earth, either. It wasn't horrible and kind of a novelty for going from 1999-2000 but I was happy when they finally removed it a few years back and went back to the clean look from before.

The hat at Hollywood Studios is also a bit of an oddity. It works well as a centerpiece but it's a little too close to the Chinese Theater (the original focal point) and it's weird that a pin-station is the centerpiece. I like it well enough, but if it went away I really wouldn't care or miss it.

I agree. We actually haven't been to Disney for 10 years, but when the kids were growing up we vacationed there every couple of years. The pictures I have in my set are only the tip of the iceberg of what I actually have. I don't know what they've done recently, but I have wondered in the past what possessed their judgement when constructing the wand and the candy coating of the castle, to name a few. I think the "Imagineering" get carried away because they work in what is really an unrealistic atmosphere, even though people do enjoy going there for the good, clean fun.

I forgot to comment on the ridiculous hat! It spoils the atmosphere of the look they were originally going for - vintage Hollywood!

If they put the hat right outside the ticket booths (great place for a pin station) it'd make more sense. As it is, it's weirdly placed so you specifically can't see the theater and is just sort of odd.

If you haven't been in 10 years you should prepare to be disappointed in the Enchanted Tiki Room. Apparently they, at Disney, had a meeting:
"You know what would make the Tiki Room super awesome??? If Iagoo and that guy from the Lion King took it over and hosted the whole show with catchy new tunes based on their own movies from 10-15 years ago!"

Yep - they hosed that one.

I am so disappointed that they changed one of my favorites - The Enchanted Tiki Room! I even loved the old pre-show! The very first time we saw that show, I actually thought it WAS raining outside!
