Heiligenstaedter Park - Rothschildgaerten 1190 Wien / Vienna
part of Gardens of Vienna | The Heiligenstädter Park in its present state is the symbiosis of two gardens, or better parks – spa gardens from the late 18th century1 and landscape gardens² created by Nathaniel Mayer Freiherr von Rothschild in the late 19th century. It is very quiet – a hidden gem, with many formidable and stunning tree veterans. Enjoy the very pleasing juxatpositions of colour and texture on a large scale. For me, the shrub level is regrettably neglected – some inspiration from Paris gardens might do the trick.
New ornamental buildings are reminiscent of the former glory, bombed into non existence in WWII. The gate keepers house (Geweygasse) is the only building surviving from before 1914.
