The Destruction of the Gulf

A boat wades through the oily waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The water has an iridescent rainbow sheen from the dangerous dispersant used to break up the crude oil spill.

Why should it boggle the mind? Our governments, which are supposed to act in the public interest, allowed the business to get away with over 700 safety citations without being shut down. We all know the government doesn't represent the public as much as it does the corporate world these days so it should come as no surprise that such an "accident" should happen.

My comment above no longer makes sense because the commenter who wrote that it boggles the mind deleted that part. But now it should make sense again. :(
