Now and Then

    Newer Older

Left, new MacBook Pro. 4GB Ram, 160GB Hard Drive, 2.4Ghz Intel Core Duo 2. OS X 10.4.10.

Right, PowerBook 145B. The first computer I ever owned -- purchased in 1994. 4MB RAM, 80MB Hard Drive. Motorola 60830 25mhz (if I remember right). Mac OS System 7.1.1. Still works. I think it boots faster than the new one.

So, raw clock speed = 96-fold increase; RAM = 1024-fold increase; and storage = 2048-fold increase.

Too bad I threw out my PB 165c (68030 33Mhz, 4MB RAM and a whopping 120 MB Harddisk) four years ago - the disk drive failed. It would have made an fascinating comparison with the PB 15", 1,67GHz, 1GB RAM and 80 GB harddisk, I'm sitting with right now.

The change from system 6 to system 7 in 1993 was quite interesting as well: I mean, imaging running MultiFinder as standard! With 4 MB RAM installed, I could run two or more programmes on my Macintosh Classic.

That's awesome that you still have the old one and in working condition!

Seen on your photo stream. (?)

My first one was a few years later (Mac Performa running the lovely 7.5.1), and like yours, it still works like a charm!

Mind detailing your Dock bar? I cannot read the icons at that distance.
