Pink wild rose
Pink wild rose 6-26-06. We built our house on the property owned by this rose bush. There was once a farm house near this rose bush and her sister roses. The farm house had long since disappeared; the lawn was much overgrown. The county mowing crew had been cutting down the tall grass in the lawn area every month or so for at least 35 years. The house collapsed and was removed sometime prior to that. Through all that time this rose and her sister rose bushes survived: demolition, fires, mowings, etc. The last time people lived on the property prior to us was 100 years ago. I would guess this bush and her sisters (we found something like 10-12 individual bushes growing in the yard after the county stopped mowing it) one are somewhere between 100 and 140 year old varieties.
