Did you get to on a big hike into the wild or were you always close to roads?

As I have a paralyzing fear of bears (we saw exactly zero bears) we usually didn't go too deep in the woods. Our two longest hikes were here in Denali for maybe 2 hours - the Savage Rock/Savage River Trail and then one in the woods to get to Exit Glacier which was shorter but mentally a bit harrowing. I talked utter nonsense nonstop and then played music on my iphone as loud as I could when I was getting out of breath. The hike to Matanuska, which was my favorite was almost 3 hours but it was entirely glaciery, in the wide open, completely devoid of wildlife, except perhaps iceworms.
