War-time scenes abroad an Aircraft Carrier. This fast-landing Grumman Wildcat(fighter plane) crashed through two barriers on the flight deck before coming to a stop, crippled and much in need of a major overhaul. Plane crews in this picture are working rapidly to right the craft so that it may be sent down one of the elevators to the hangar deck and thus make room for further landing operations. Hoses were played over the flight deck to remove fire hazard created by punctured gasoline tanks. The men on the wing are there to help balance the fuselage so that a dolly may be put in underneath broken landing gear. Aug. 20, 1942
