Pre-cast Yard and Beams
The pre-cast concrete yard was situated on the east bank of the Ord River close to the concrete batching plant and the Diversion Dam construction site.

Christiani & Nielsen were pioneers of pre-stressed concrete for bridge construction in Europe before building the Narrows Bridge in Perth in 1959. In 1960 they won the Diversion Dam contract and used pre-stressed (steel) concrete beams to make the roadway across the Diversion Dam and later for the Dunham River Bridge.

This was work that could be carried out during the wet season, when the river was too high for work on Bandicoot Bar.
