The Weary Traveler
Black-throated Green Warbler resting from a long migration, photographed in northwestern Ohio this past May.
Unlike most of the warblers from this particular morning, this little black-throated green spent its time on the ground looking for bugs. What surprised me was that as it hopped along, several times it paused and almost looked like it was panting out of shear exhaustion with eyes nearly closed. Then it would continue to look for bugs. I really can't imagine the amount of energy used by these tiny birds to get to their summer breeding grounds during migration. So many miles to travel.
Looks better larger.
