saigon flower makeover... 1140, 1138 & 1136 Queen St W
It appears that a TV show called Restaurant Makeover is working on the Saigon Flower, which has been here – a few doors east of the Drake Hotel – longer than I can remember (which is about twenty years).
Even friends who moved away years ago have a soft spot for the Saigon Flower. The restaurant has been run by a widow for many years, but in the last years it has been more cheap bar than restaurant, dominated by a giant tv. I imagine she has lost some of that business with new smoking laws, and it is great if it becomes more of a restaurant again. I don’t know the full story yet.
Back In the 1980s, when Rose’ husband was alive it was a very happy place with both of them there, along with their kids. He had been a journalist and photographer and had an award winning photograph on the wall.
My good friend Rick ate there almost every day when he lived here, and Rose still asks about him sometimes.
