Changjon Primary School, Pyongyang

평양 창전소학교.

Changjon Primary School in Pyongyang is sort of a model school. Founded in September 1945, immediately after the liberation, it was visited twice by President Kim Il Sung who, despite being fully occupied with state affairs, "gave detailed instructions on all principal issues of intellectual and ideological education and of school administration, from the contents and methods of education and the students' extra-curricular and organizational activities down to family education and social education", as the Korean Encyclopedia duly reports. The school boasts not only a bronze statue of Kim Il Sung but also an "On-the-spot teachings board", a "Room for the study of the revolutionary activities of Generalissimo Kim Il Sung", a "Room for the study of the revolutionary activities of General Kim Jong Il", and rooms where revolutionary relics and the leaders' gifts are kept. There are regular classrooms as well but you may have guessed already that the main emphasis is not on teaching useful knowledge but on political indoctrination.
