Here Comes the Sun King
There are some times when you're shooting gigs that you get lucky with the lighting. Let me stress...this was NOT one of those! ;-)
This is Ricky Wilson of the Kaiser Chiefs photographed during tonight's gig at Barrowlands in Glasgow. I absolutely saw this one coming...and was trying for an effect of this sort. The sunburst light at his head was periodically fanning across the stage...and all one had to do was time it right. Easy-peasy!
Granted...there were elements of luck involved. Principally that I had a photo pass for the gig, thanks to my FNPE (come now...surely you all know by now that' stands for Friendly Neighbourhood Picture Editor?), Alex Hewitt from The Scotsman.
It was great to be in "the pit" for a gig like this, which was not for the claustrophobic. It was a bit like an obstacle course (ducking under and stepping over barriers), was fairly narrow...and absolutely full of photographers and security staff.
The only downside was that it all seemed to be over very quickly...which I subsequently confirmed was the case. We had been told that we could shoot three songs...if there were three....they must have been the shortest ones in the Kaiser Chiefs repertoire. From the time I took my first shot...to the time I took my last....a mere six minutes had passed.
Ah well...such is life....better six minutes than zero minutes. All this...and three more gigs in the next nine days. Woo-Hoo! :-)
