National Portrait Galler Foster Atrium

    Newer Older

The National Portrait Gallery Courtyard with the roof by Sir Norman Foster. The floor has the capacity to be a reflecting pool. If the pool is full, I can imagine an attractive space. Right now, the color choice of the floor is too heavy when compared to the other colors in the composition. The pool is an important part to lightening the floor. I'd bet money they pools aren't running because people stepped in them!

Oh the atrium is on my list of must-sees. I heard Kathryn Gustavson talk about it a couple of years ago, and she was adamant that stepping in the pools was an integral part of the experience. She also talked quite a bit about the lighting scheme creating space. Too bad the pools are off!

Wow, thanks Ingorr! I had no idea KG worked on this! After being in so many other cities, I didn't think DC had as nice a collection as other cities, but there's some *amazing* stuff in these galleries! They've actually got a flickr group (1934) for an exhibition they have right now!
