david and i left antigua and headed in a bus and then a boat across a mangrove swamp to monterrico, a beach on guatemala's pacific coast.
the hotel we finally wound up at, covered in sweat, lugging our packs, just happened to be next to a sea turtle reserve. after playing on the hot black sand and getting slammed by waves on the shore for a bit, we were told by a couple we'd met that for
a small fee, anyone can release a baby sea turtle to the sea at sunset.
i wasn't going to miss that.
these children had just exchanged tickets for sea turtles and were inspecting their new babies, moments before their release.
