    A photograph from just after opening in 1928 of the original George Coles designed Egyptian style facade of the Carlton Cinema (later ABC/ACE). This part of the building was destroyed by a V2 Rocket in January 1945.

      The film that was being shown when the photograph was taken was "In Old Arizona", a western directed by Raoul Walsh. According to the IMDB, it was the first talkie to be shot outdoors -- apparently, audiences were thrilled by the authentic sound of frying bacon in a camp-fire scene. Changed days, indeed...
