Would you read like this?

I've been trying not to print papers this semester and read PDFs in Skim instead, which lets you go full screen, rotate, etc. I've found holding my laptop like this actually isn't quite as bad as I thought, though it's better turned 180 degrees if you don't need the power. Also, access to keys is tough for things like annotation, but paging with the space bar is easy.

Interesting notion. So far I have found it very difficult to break from printing papers I need to read seriously... I tend to mark them up. Perhaps a new generation of touch-screen MacBooks will come along and make it all easier.

gravitywave, Skim lets you add notes and highlights and the like, but it's still nowhere near as easy or as natural as a red pen.

I use dual head portrait format all the time because I edit and read digitally on a regular basis. It is perfect for the map layouts I do, which are often in portrait format.

I've tried displays like this but I just don't like reading for long periods of time while sitting at a desk (I don't mind browsing Flickr for equivalent amounts of time in the same posture, though...). The vertical laptop in my lap seems to work out ok. Viewing angle and resolution could be better of course.

      Thanks so much for sharing...

I used your sweet little image here in a blog post for my school:

Funny -- just came across this photo in a blog post my librarian friend shared with me: lisnews.org/would_you_read

      Small world.

Hey Wendy. I wondered why this photo was suddenly getting a bunch of traffic. It saddens me that the future is here and there still isn't a decent hand-held ebook or PDF reader that supports annotation. The Kindle's nice and all, but 20 seconds of reading Pride and Prejudice and I was already annoyed with its annotation capabilities.
