pumpkin patch massacre
something terrible has happened in the vegan gingerbread pumpkin patch. can you solve the mystery of the pumpkin patch massacre?
RECIPE:
gingerbread-
2/3 c. vegetable shortening
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
3 Tbs fresh, grated ginger
pinch of salt
3/4 c. molasses
1 "egg" (use whatever egg substitute you prefer - i used ener-g egg replacer)
3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
-preheat oven to 375 degrees fahrenheit. cream together first 6 ingredients. add molasses. stir. in another bowl, sift together dry ingredients. combine wet and dry ingredients together to make dough. roll out on floured board, and cut with cookie cutter of your choice (it doesn't have to be gingerbread people in a pumpkin patch... how about rabid gingerbread werewolves running loose in a city? use your imagination!) place cookies on cookie sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes. let cool on cooling rack.
meanwhile MAKE ICING!
1 c. powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
vanilla soy or rice milk (as needed)
mix sugar and vanilla extract in a bowl. add milk one teaspoon at a time until the icing is runny, but not too runny. add color if you wish (orange for pumpkin. red for blood, duh!) ice the cookies on the cooling rack with a knife or spoon or spatula. let icing harden.
THE SETUP!
for this scene, the ground is shredded coconut dyed green with coloring. to do this, use the "shake and bake" method- which simply means put a bunch of shredded coconut in a baggie. add a few drops of coloring. close baggie and shake shake shake!!!
to hold up all of the elements in the scene, just make thicker icing and use like paste.
enjoy!
