Ice Mushrooms (Agaricus frozensis)

For wild mushroom pickers, this species is edible but some find them bland and a little crunchy. Also, the stalks are tough, tend to taste woody and are more palatable if cooked thoroughly (boiling is best). They are found near the shores of frozen Yukon lakes in early November, usually in a patch of reflected twilight just before dark. These ones were found at Schwatka Lake near Whitehorse.
