Orange You Gonna Chase Me?

This common raven arrived at the aerial acrobatics show with a section of an orange in his/her mouth, immediately attracting attention with this "show-off" display. Normally, a raven would never fly around flaunting a food item in its mouth as it would be immediately chased down and the food taken by a more dominant bird. However this is aerial acrobatics time and ravens prefer higher calorie food anyways. I think the message here is: "Look at me, see how smart and resourceful I am....come chase me and we'll do pair acrobatics together and then who knows what could happen.. "

Although ravens don't mate and nest until about their 4th year, they often form bonded pairs much earlier, not infrequently by their first year.
