Ajax and Achilles

Ajax (Aias) retrieving the body of Achilles at Troy. Leigible glyphs provide remarkable continuity from Ancient Greek to Modern English. "Achilles" is more intelligible to an English speaker in the ancient form than the modern form, "ΑΧIΛEYΣ".

On the François Vase discovered in 1844 within an Etruscan tomb near Chiusi, Italy. Shattered in 1900 by an irate museum guard. Now housed in the National Archaeological Museum.
