The stove settles down to a nice calm flame. With a 1.5-ounce fuel load and the simmer ring in place, the stove will simmer for about 25 minutes after it blooms. That's just right for baked goods or real rice.
Resist the temptation to peek! You can do something else while you're waiting, like sit and read, or stuff your sleeping bag and pack your tent.
Look every once in a while to make sure that the fire hasn't gone out, ,the stove hasn't exploded, and there's still steam coming out of the pot. If the pot stops steaming, you need to add more water carefully. The one time this happened to me, I used the hose from my Camelbak to put in more without drenching the muffins.
