Earl M. Maltz - June 26, 2013

Henry Fortunato, Director of Public Affairs for the Kansas City Public Library, introduced Earl M. Maltz to a packed crowd. Maltz discussed his book Dred Scott and the Politics of Slavery as part of the Legal Landmarks series focusing on the Supreme Court at the Kansas City Public Library on June 26, 2013. The slave Dred Scott claimed that his residence in a free state transformed him into a free man. When the Court decided otherwise, the ruling sent shock waves through the nation and helped lead to the Civil War.

Maltz is Distinguished Professor of Law at Rutgers University – Camden.
