Vintage Photo Art

Where someone else might consider this vintage found photo ruined by all of the writing, I feel it makes the image a work of art beyond the photography. Beautiful. Oh, and the colors really are that bright on the original photo, Thet didn't fade over all these years, amazingly. Crayon, it looks like. Btw, the composition of the framing/centering of the image is mine via cropping of a larger image,

Take a closer look at the image in the large or the original size view.

I don't know what was going on here, but doesn't it seem like there was some gender role reversal....? "Aunt Lizz" has all the characteristics of a male, and "Hugh Joseph(?)" has got to be a female. And "Ruth" in the front - I mean, cum'on!

Anybody have a fix on when this might have been taken (by clothing styles, maybe)...?

The image is a real-photo postcard. On the back there is writing in the same red as on the photo. Some of it is legible, and it says: "Here's to the boys who is willing to see them through." Neat.
