Love is God

We are all told time and again, that God is Love. If such were the case, why is it that in Hindu Religion, one of the oldest in the world, they worship a icon that is a symbol of love. And its not alone in this kind of practice. Many spiritual and religious tradition have direct or indirect references to similar ideas.

So the question that comes to my mind, which of the statement resonates better with you?

God is Love.

Love is God.

Please let me know what is your view? Also if you know of other traditions that have similar ideas or views, please feel free to share it.
