This is our new guy, Hobbes. Hobbes is a 10-month-old (as of April 2008), fawn-colored Doberman that we got from Southwest Ohio Doberman Rescue.
Hobbes (his name was originally Buster, we think) spent the first six months of his life chained up in a back yard in Louisville, until his owner's next door neighbor said, "If you're not going to do anything with that dog, I'm going to take him!" then did. His second owner kept him for three months, but then became a police cadet and no longer had enough time for a young dog, so turned him over to SWODR.
We actually had contacted SWODR about a dog they had named Calvin, who is red with natural ears and tail, as was our late Red. Jackson and Calvin got along fine, but this other dog that happened to be there took an immediate liking to Jackson, and the feeling seemed to be mutual.
So, someone else took Calvin to his new forever home. For us, this guy — who we named Hobbes — was the better choice.
