Church & State Bistro

My brother Ben and his wife Audrey are visiting us, so we’re took them to a lot of our favorite places in and around LA. While driving through the Artist district near downtown, we passed Church & State Bistro, and thought, “Hey, we’re thirsty anyway. Let’s stop for a drink.” Surprisingly, Ryan and I have never actually stopped to eat here, even though we talk about it every time we drive by. We ended up eating a rather large lunch — and a delicious one at that!!

We enjoyed some French wine, labeled Mas de Gourgonnier Les Baux de Provence (2009), and then ate some escargot (Ryan’s first time!) and bone marrow (our first time!). The snail was in a creamy sauce with a puff pastry top, so it was rather tasty (my other experience with escargot was not pleasant)! The bone marrow had almost no flavor at all, really…

We all had something different to eat, but I think my plate was the best! I got a peach tart with brie cheese and grilled onions. It was absolutely delicious!

This little French bistro was a great place to relax. Amidst the industrial warehouses, we ate a delicate meal, enjoyed some superb wine, talked and laughed in the warm summer air… Truly a great experience!

Have you ever been to Church & State or any other French bistro?
