We had spent the afternoon at the park, and I hadn’t gotten a single photo of L. because she was in constant motion. When we were about to leave, her mother said, “Why don’t you let Kat take your picture?” L. said, “How about if I lie on the grass with my hair spread out?” and proceeded to flop herself down and spread her hair with a flourish. She knows I don’t like her to smile when I photograph her, so she assumed this gaze without prompting. I am always amazed how children can so quickly get into “the zone.”
