Union Pacific Passenger Depot

This depot is one of the most attractive ones I have seen in my travels. Abilene was a big rail hub at one time, as I spotted four different depots (one was a freight depot) that were originally located in this town of about 6,800 people. This beauty is currently used as the Abilene Visitor Center.

Built in 1928.

The style is Mission/Spanish Colonial Revival and was designed by architect Gilbert Stanley Underwood.

Placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.

N. 2nd and Broadway,

Abilene (Dickinson County), KS.
