Is it the end of an era for the California Wildflower Hotsheet?
A very sad day for wildflower lovers in California. At least for now, Carol Leigh has decided to stop posting her well-known California Wildflower Hotsheet primarily because people are destroying the flowers and causing problems on private property in their zealous pursuit of blooms in locations noted on her site. What a shame the inconsiderate behavior of some ruins it for all.
Carol has been so wonderfully generous over the years. I've been a contributor to her wildflower and fall color hotsheets for many seasons and will miss her tremendously, but after witnessing areas being over-run with inconsiderate people the last few weeks, I had decided to keep many of the locations I found recently secret. Thus, I completely understand and support her decision.
Perhaps some compromise offering, maybe posts only about blooms in state and national parks or on other public lands is possible, so private property isn't over run. But the real issue is the destruction of flowers, so perhaps it's best if they are left out of the news for a while.
I'll miss you Carol!
