ANIM Winter Gala Concert
On Jan. 30, U.S. Ambassador James Cunningham and Ambassador Hugo Llorens attended the Winter Academy Gala Concert given by Afghanistan National Institute of Music (ANIM) at the French Cultural Center in Kabul. The Winter Academy is the culmination of weeks of workshops held with guest musicians from all over the world, and is partially sponsored by Public Affairs, U.S. Embassy Kabul.
Ambassador Cunningham said, “I am very proud that the U.S. Embassy is a key sponsor for ANIM’s upcoming tour of the United States, because we believe in the power of music to transcend boundaries of distance, to promote mutual understanding and to inspire. Music speaks across cultures, languages and centuries.
“Studying music demands many of the qualities required to survive under difficult conditions: discipline, hard work, cooperation with
colleagues, a vivid imagination and a firm belief in the future.”
The concert included Afghan traditional music, Chopin’s
Nocturne, a performance by the chamber percussion ensemble, and culminated in Ravel’s Bolero.
ANIM departed on Feb. 2 to perform at concerts in Washington's Kennedy Center, New York’s Carnegie Hall, and at Scarsdale High School, New York, and the New England Conservatory of
Music. (Photo by U.S. State Department)
