Only Me

    Newer Older

I love these old shelters on the pier, and after hours of hanging around in the darkness, the lights finally came on and we could shoot this sequence. Unfortunately, it didn't quite go as I'd hoped. Whilst we were setting up an elderly man wandered over and started grilling me on my setup. After telling me off for not using a filter (because apparantly using photoshop is not photography), he then proceeded to hang over the back of my camera while I was shooting advising me on all the many things I was doing wrong (basically everything!) Explaining to him that it wasn't technical perfection, merely a mood I was going for, all fell on deaf ears. Hence...not quite the shot I was hoping for. I find it hard to concentrate with someone up my armpit! lol!
Anyone who's ever seen Harry Enfield's TV show and the 'Only Me' character will know where I'm coming from!

I think you have captured a mood there perfectly. You always get one that has an alternative opinion... being diplomatic there lol :)

Goes to show there's really no right or wrong in the process of making a good image. You should have told the 'ol bugger to mind his own business :D

Great shot JJ the mono works perfectly, you obviously have a lot more patience than us as I think he may have taken a swim if we were in that situation !!! ;)

I don't know what technically perfect is? isn't is subjective? Subjectively, i think this is perfect, if that technically means anything? :P

Lol...far more diplomatic than me once we were out of earshot! ;-)
I was biting my tongue. I think it probably made his day to give these 'amateurs' some much-needed advice! ;-)
      Lol...it was tempting! ;-)
Thanks! Unfortunately not everyone sees it that way. There are a lot of photography snobs out there ;-)

I have had sooo many people advise me on using a different lens and "What filter is that?" And then trying to look at my camera, and EXCUSE ME BUT NO ONE ASKED YOU (not yelling, just emphasizing). Sorry but its a huge pet peeve of mine. I take photos alone with big sunglasses on and hardly look approachable. But I must scream to people PLEASE SHARE YOUR RANDOM PHOTO KNOWLEDGE WITH ME. Maybe I need a different look?? Anyway, I'll shut up...and it was nice of you to try and explain it to him. Clearly you know what you are doing and this turned out great. :)
