Trillium Falls

If you search "Trillium Falls," you are bound to discover a number of beautiful photographs of this and other falls. Surely they are all named after the beautiful flowers that, at the right time of year, grow along their banks. This Trillium Falls is located in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. The State and National Redwoods Parks are contiguous, but span such a large north-south transect that I think it is worth mentioning in which park a given feature is located for those of you interested in seeing these places for yourselves. Though I like the photographs I took here, the primary visual experience of these falls and trees will suffer no substitute.

The Trillium Falls Trail is an easy hike that takes you from a parking area to the falls and then over the ridge and back again. Even in the height of summer, lugging tripod and camera, this is a pleasant walk amongst beautiful forest. My wife and I have a hypothesis that the density of visitors drops exponentially from the location of a parking lot outward and that the value of the exponent is positively correlated with the difficulty of the trail. If you are headed to the park, this is an easy and beautiful hike not to be missed!
