The hand shake

During the 2008 campaign for president, this little bit of art, spray-painted onto the walls of a viaduct under Lake Shore Drive, appeared as if it was saying “Hi, nice to meet you.” After Obama’s victory, it seemed to say “Thanks, looking forward to working with you.” Just after the first 100 days in office, it has the feeling of an amicable handshake between people who are working towards a similar goal (the economy being central both to the administration and to the country) though there may be some underlying differences about how to do so. I wonder how it will feel in the years to come.

Previous presidents whose terms I have experienced seemed not to be such a focus point for ordinary people. Whether right or wrong, good or bad, many people in this country associate this man with their dreams and aspirations or fears and apprehensions. Interestingly, Obama has created/inherited an extraordinary circumstance in American history and a chance to draw upon a wellspring of good will. His hopes and his promises of uniting many people in this country whose political alignments are so disparate has yet to be fulfilled, but perhaps if we can overcome some of the problems that face all Americans, he’ll have his shot.

Hm. Agreed. I hope that some years down the line people will look at this image as a prophecy/hope/promise fulfilled...It's a very interesting time to be American (from a Canadian pov) - a period of great possibilities and the will to bring the best of them to fruition has come together...
    Great find Justin!

Great bit a of framing Justin, if I'd taken that it would be slap bang in the middle and probably have nowhere near the impact :-)

A very interesting and well done "graffiti", you've done a great job capturing it with the texture and thank you for the commentary. We are certainly at a crossroads and a handshake can go a long way, lets hope we can continue to put out our hands and try to work together.

It could also be a sign indicating that Obama will be the first president to openly acknowledge aliens ;o)
