I had the idea for this project whilst I was sewing my sister's wedding bouquet last year and just couldn't get it out of my head. A huge amount of the inspiration came from two places - this stunning peacock created by a talented artist right here on Flickr, and the opening montage of 'El Dorado' the animated film. Mixed in that wonderful array of colour and movement is a wonderful bush and I just knew I wanted to create something like it in felt.
Each of the tail feathers has been stitched and decorated separately and then backed in felt and stitched around the outside, just like I did for the bouquet. I then layered the pieces and stitched them in place, before adding the body and stitching the beaded feet in place.
I gotta say, I loved creating this piece. I now just have to find a way to carefully package it up and send it to my parents as they would like it to hang in their home.
