I've never understood why people like to decorate the keratin that grows out of the end of their fingers. So strange. I guess shiny things attract the male of the species?

Just dropping by at flickr for a quick moment before going into the beautiful outdoors... and find myself looking at this...

...and well, this looks positively lethal. Now just imagine the nailcolor as the (previously, traditionally) red! Even more dangerous! I always felt that painted finger nails looked bloody and dangerous - nothing to do with attreaction to the other sex, more a sign of female fierceness and aggression. I might have once agreed with tifotter's comment above regarding the oddness of decorating the keratin, until I discovered copper colored nailpolish (and creative-artistic face-paint... not unlike australian aboriginals, which has a completely different sense to it - a kind of expression of the soul with the body as a canvas - check out an interesting example here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Blacklight_bodypainting_leevi.jpg ). Which I try on (the nailpolish) for a day maybe once every two years in support of mother-daughter "girls" time. The problem with nail polish, though, is that it doesn't let the nails breathe or feel... and since my nails are part of my overall physical antenna, I feel "disabled" by the polish. Long nails are also very disabling if you want to really live.

Thanks for the reply to my "another face", by the way. Glad that it somehow "touched" you.

and i have to add--it's definitely impressive they made it growing that long ;) as this is a challenge..i've made unsuccessful attempts for only a small fraction of that length..

well..it's not a record and they lose the edge after certain length:

I don't like long nails - they're high maintenance, ugly and unhygienic (maybe the perception stems from "Did you clean under your fingernails??" scolding).

Imagine those nails scratching a blackboard. Eeek!
