Winter in Miami...shiny-winged Honey Bee feeding on pastel Lantana

Explore Dec 23, 2002 #102

Our world here in the tropics is wonderful! On my morning photo walk today, I was marveling at the beauty of this notch-edged Lantana and it's brilliant light and dark pastel colors when this bee marvelous landed in my shot. And stayed put for about 15 clicks... with my camera lens only 2 inches away!

I love the buds of Lantana. Look at the little wrapped packages (tiny buds) in the center. And the depth of the range of color in each blossom and within the same cluster... yellow to gold. Pink to purple to brilliant red. Purple to orange to rosy red.

And the bee... what a marvelous shiny-winged specimen you are! I love your fuzzy back, your glossy black eyes and antennae. And of course your striped abdomen!

Enjoying the warmth. Flying to Montreal Christmas Day! For a little ice and snow and lots of family fun!

See my set, Lubbers, Bugs and Bees.
