Today in Vancouver: Mouse Trap

UBC Robson Square

--

I had to go to court today, which was in this area, for a ticket I got 2 years ago.

I was heading home after picking up a shift at another London Drugs location and I was so much in a hurry that I missed the validating machines and went through a "Fare Paid Zone" in the train station. I was fishing for my new (unvalidated) ticket when a police officer stopped me.

Anyway, today was the scheduled hearing so I went. It was good to see the system in action. I've never been in a hearing so I was nervous. I didn't want to just take the easy way out by pleading guilty, as the officer suggested. So I put my big boy pants on and told the judge "not guilty". I was sworn in, asked questions, and I was heard, which was all I wanted to do. My fine was reduced to a third of the original cost.
