Theatre of Palmyra

Palmyra's Theatre was, until the 1950's, buried beneath the sand, however it has been restored continuously since then.

The freestanding stage facade of the theatre itself is designed along the lines of a palace entrance, complete with a royal door and smaller doors on either side.

During the Palmyra Festival, which runs from the end of April to the beginning of May, music and dance performances are held in the theatre.
