Social Studies - Lesson about Volunteers

    Newer Older

Our lesson today was about natural disasters such as floods, wildfires, earthquakes, and hurricanes. We read about the Red Cross helping people during these disasters.
Unfortunately Hurricane Katrina caused much damage today in several states, but the students learned how volunteers can be helpful in these circumstances.

What a great lesson, considering the events of today.

We visit Biloxi often--we used to live there--and I am saddened to think how much damage they may have sustained. In fact, we have a trip planned to a hotel right there on the beach in October--and I don't even know if that hotel is still standing now.

I sent my kids to school today with their Biloxi and New Orleans t-shirts on. I hope everyone comes out all right, though I know that's not entirely possible.

Excellent picture. I'd like to use it on a MaEd presentation. I will credit appropriately.
