Steam Engines meet at the Golden Spike

Golden Spike National Historic Site, Promontory, Utah, celebrates the creation of America's first transcontinental railroad. On May 10, 1869 the Central Pacific Railroad (from the east) and the Union Pacific Railroad, (from the west) joined 1,776 miles of track at Promontory Summit, Utah Territory. This incredible accomplishment forever changed life in the United States, tying Atlantic and Pacific coasts together for the first time by rail.
